Mpumalanga Premier, Mr Mandla Ndlovu will officially hand over 34 vehicles to Traditional Councils across the Province on Friday, at the Mbombela Stadium in the City of Mbombela. The vehicles are tools of trade that the Provincial Government provide to the institution of traditional leadership in the Province to strengthen their community role in rural areas.

The vehicles enable Senior Traditional Leaders to maintain contact with the communities they serve, from presiding over traditional council activities, facilitating community consultations and participating in cultural ceremonies, as well as supporting rural development initiatives.

Premier Ndlovu says as custodians of culture and heritage, the vehicles become a vital mode of transport for Traditional Leaders to attend without fail, functions related to their culture and heritage, including social cohesion and community projects in their areas. “This support reaffirms the Provincial Government’s commitment to working with the institution of traditional leadership to advance service delivery, community participation and rural development,” he emphasized.

The 34 vehicles is the first batch to be procured for the designated Traditional Councils, and the remaining fleet, will be procured in few months. Premier Ndlovu will be accompanied by the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Leaders (CoGHSTA), Mr Speed Mashilo.
