The Mpumalanga Premier, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu will open the Lowveld Eye Institute and Eye Hospital officially in Mbombela on Friday.

The facility is a state of the art and modern surgical institution designed to deliver world class eye care service in the province. It represents a major investment in the health care centre to reduce blindness among patients through advanced technology.

Premier Ndlovu says the establishment of the eye surgical facility ignites hope to many patients faced with cases of blindness in Mpumalanga, due to lack of such facilities for specialized treatment. He says the facility will bring closer world class service to many communities who travel long distances to access treatment.

It is envisaged that once the facility is fully operational, it will reduce a backlog of cases for cataract and diabetic treatment, the treatment of vision-threatening diseases and improvement of screening capacity for early detection, through collaboration of specialists.

Details of the function are as follows:

Date : Friday, 20 February 2026
Time : 17h00
Venue : Mbombela

Members of the media wishing to attend, are invited to send confirmations to Ms. Tlangelani Rikhotso (Office of the Premier) on 079 516 6991.
