The Office of the Premier of Mpumalanga acknowledges the arrests of some officials within the Department of Education in the Provincial Government. The arrests were instituted by members of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) on Sunday.
The Premier, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu encourages the Department of Education to promptly assess the impact of these arrests on its internal functionality, including administrative operations, service delivery, and staff morale.
The Premier noted that the arrest is aligned with the pronouncements of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) by the President recently.
“It is worth-noting that the arrests compliment the President, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa’s firm commitment to fight corruption and crime as outlined in the SONA. In addition, building a capable, ethical and developmental state, as one of the three priorities of the 7th Administration, requires a high level of commitment to act in cases where risks are identified to obstruct the realization of this aspiration,” Premier Ndlovu stressed.
South Africa is democratic country guided by our constitution, which clearly states that one is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. We urge our communities to allow the law to take its course.
Premier Ndlovu says the Provincial Government respects the independence of law enforcement agencies and the judicial process, and therefore it is essential to ensure that such developments do not unduly disrupt the delivery of critical services when such incidents occur.
The Premier says the Mpumalanga Provincial Government remains committed to fostering a stable and effective education system that prioritizes the well-being and future of our youth.
