The Provincial Treasury has been made aware of fraudulent activity targeting potential service providers for advertised bids.
The scammers are using what appears to be an email and a purported cellphone number of the Chief Financial Officer to lure unsuspecting service providers into contacting them to discuss the tender in return for payment.
The Department wishes to state that the cellphone number used in these fictitious emails is not that of the Chief Financial Officer.
We would like to emphasise that all officials of the department are not allowed to solicit financial contributions from service providers in relation to bid or tender opportunities.
Hacking of emails and cellphones, as well as misrepresentation, are criminal offences. The Department encourages individuals who may fall victim to such activities to report the matter to their nearest police station.
