eMalahleni - Mpumalanga MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Ms Nompumelelo Hlophe, says investment in the children’s future is the best investment ever. She said this when celebrating the 2023 Nelson Mandela International Day at KwaMthunzi-Vilakazi (Clewer) in the Emalahleni Local Municipality today. MEC Hlophe was joined by the Executive Mayor of Emalahleni Local Municipality, Councillor Leah Mabuza.

“President Mandela believed that the future of any country is in its children; he believed in investing in the future of our children; hence we choose to do the same in this school today. We are here to lend-a-helping hand to the Clewer ECD, after realising their needs, so that we can safeguard and protect our future generation”, said Ms Hlophe.

As part of celebrating Mandela Day, which is also Madiba’s birthday, MEC Hlophe, through a donation by Elandsfontein Colliery, unveiled a parameter wall which was recently constructed, as a measure to protect the children who used to play on an unprotected and unguarded field. To enhance the children’s protection, the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, which is under the political leadership of MEC Hlophe, also committed to erect a sliding gate at the ECD Centre and will further donate a generator to the Centre.

Another Department under the MEC, the Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury, donated a gas stove plus a gas cylinder, a refrigerator, a sandpit and a jungle gym to the Clewer Early Childhood Development Centre.
“We express our appreciation to the Elandsfontein Colliery, for constructing a parameter wall around the ECD, which will keep our children safe and protected”, indicated MEC.

The Elandsfontein Colliery also donated a High Pressure pump to one of the Car Wash youth-owned SMMEs in KwaMthunzi-Vilakazi (Clewer). The Colliery has also committed to revamp public toilets around the Clewer Parks.
“As we leave here, there are also a number of activities which the Executive Mayor, the Chief Whip, Councillors and I, will participate in, as part of celebrating the Nelson Mandela International Day. Please join us as we use our hands to clean the area”, said the MEC.
