Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Jackie Macie, is once again urging motorists to exercise caution and remain vigilant at all times.

The MEC was reacting to a head-on collision between two light delivery vehicles (LDVs) on the R542 between Van Dyk’s Drift and Blinkpan, near Middelburg, which claimed the lives of six people on Friday morning, 5 June 2026. The deceased, who died at the scene, include both drivers and four passengers.

Four other people sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals in Middelburg and Emalahlenifor treatment.

The cause of the crash is still unclear at this stage. An investigation is already underway.

“All road users must play their part to curb such loss of lives. Every road user must obey the rules of the road and remain alert at all times,” the MEC said.

Mr Macie has extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
