The Premier of Mpumalanga, Mr Mandla Ndlovu, has officially opened the state-of-the-art Troya Clinic in the Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality, marking another significant milestone in the Provincial Government's ongoing investment in quality healthcare infrastructure.
Premier Ndlovu was accompanied by the MEC for Health, Ms Sasekani Manzini, Executive Mayor of Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality, Cllr NS Mtsweni and Kgoshi LM Mokoena of the Mpumalanga House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders, among other dignitaries.
Following the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, Premier Ndlovu toured the newly completed facility, which is designed to bring quality primary healthcare services closer to the people of Troya and surrounding villages. Speaking during the event, Premier Ndlovu said the handover of the clinic reaffirmed the Provincial Government's belief that "quality healthcare is not a privilege for a few but a constitutional right for every South African."
The clinic will provide a comprehensive package of primary healthcare services, including maternal and child healthcare, chronic disease management, HIV and TB services, immunisation, routine health screenings and health promotion programmes. It is expected to serve approximately 4,960 people within its catchment area, significantly reducing the distance and waiting times residents previously faced when accessing healthcare services.
The opening of the facility reflects the Mpumalanga Provincial Government's commitment to strengthening the public healthcare system through modern infrastructure that improves access to essential services and enhances the quality of life of communities across the province. Premier Ndlovu described the milestone as one that "will restore dignity to our people and improve access to quality healthcare services."
The event also features free health promotion and screening services for community members, including screenings for hypertension, diabetes, HIV, TB and cancer.
