Mbombela – The MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Ms. Makhosazane Masilela will on Friday, 30 May 2025, swear in Members of the Mpumalanga Consumer Affairs Court in Nelspruit, Mbombela Local Municipality.

The eleven (11) Members of the Mpumalanga Consumer Affairs Court were appointed on 5 March 2025, in terms of the Mpumalanga Consumer Affairs Act No. 6 of 1998.

MEC Masilela will preside over the swearing in ceremony of the Members as required by section 14 (7) of the Mpumalanga Consumer Affairs Act. The Act states that a member and alternate members of the Consumer Court shall before assuming office take an Oath or Solemn Affirmation in the prescribed form in terms of Regulation 23 (5) before the responsible member or Member of the Executive Council (MEC).

The Consumer Court will preside over consumer cases that will be investigated by the office of the Consumer Protector and accordingly process them to ensure Consumer Rights become a legislative reality. The Consumer Court is empowered to make orders for the prohibition and control of unfair business practices.
