Three trucks catch fire on impact, drivers unharmed on the N4

MBOMBELA – Three articulated trucks were involved in a collision on the N4 Toll Road between Hectorspruit and Marloth Park, towards Komatipoort, on Friday morning, 25 September 2026. The three trucks caught fire on impact. All three drivers escaped unharmed.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie, said he is fully aware of the increased number of trucks travelling through the country destined for the Port of Maputo. The increase has impacted traffic flow, with many drivers spending considerable time in long queues.

Regrettably, some truck drivers have been caught trying to skip the queue by dangerously overtaking and driving into oncoming traffic.

“While we understand the frustration of being in queues for longer hours, no individual has the right to drive in front of oncoming traffic. This is not only unlawful, but it also endangers the lives of other road users. Our traffic law enforcement officers are deployed at the Lebombo Border Post to deal with any person disregarding the rules of the road or displaying reckless behaviour,” said MEC Macie.

He again reminded all people travelling throughout this weekend to be extremely cautious on the road.
