The Mpumalanga Provincial Government today participated in the Women in Construction Dialogue held at the Nkangala District Municipality Council Chamber.
The engagement was attended by MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport, Thulasizwe Thomo; MEC for Culture, Sport and Recreation, Leah Mabuza; Mpumalanga Director-General, Maggie Skosana; and Nkangala District Executive Mayor, Cllr Thomas Ngwenya.
Held under the theme, “Building Inclusive Infrastructure and Expanding Opportunities for Women,” the dialogue focused on accelerating the participation of women in the construction sector through improved access to procurement opportunities, development finance, mentorship programmes, skills development, and enterprise support.
Government and industry stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that women play a meaningful role across the entire construction value chain.
The dialogue also served as a platform to assess progress made since the 2025 Women in Construction Dialogue and to strengthen accountability towards the implementation of resolutions aimed at transforming the sector.
The Province continues to make significant strides in empowering women-owned businesses.
During the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport increased the proportion of contracts awarded to women-owned enterprises to 57%, reflecting government's commitment to gender transformation, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable development.
