The Executive Council (EXCO) in Mpumalanga will embark on an aggressive and impactful community outreach programme, to engage directly with communities across the City of Mbombela (CoM) Local Municipality to improve public participation. The Premier, Mr. Mandla Ndlovu says the Outreach Programme seeks to reinforce the commitment of the Provincial Government to transparency and accountability.
The Outreach Programme will start in earnest on Thursday, when Members of the Executive (MECs), accompanied by Councilors, engage the civil society, the business sector and various community structures. The engagements will be preceded by site visits to various service delivery projects in the four regions of the municipality to assess their state and effectiveness. These visits serve as an opportunity to develop intervention measures when monitored projects fail to adhere to timelines and quality standards.
A 2022 report by Statistics South Africa classified CoM as a municipality with the fastest growing population in Mpumalanga due to the migration of people from other areas in search of job opportunities. The CoM is also grappling with a broad range of socio-economic challenges, including a high demand of services such as water.
The Outreach Programme will provide feedback on its strategic programmes and future plans to address the challenges, through a District Development Model (DDM) approach.
A Premier’s Imbizo will be held on the final day of the EXCO programme. The imbizo is arranged as follows:
Date: Friday, 23 May 2025
Time: 10h00
Venue: Kabokweni Stadium, City of Mbombela
