Rob Ferreira Hospital experienced oxygen leakage following an incident

Yesterday, the 2nd of February 2026, at around 18:00 pm, the Mpumalanga Department of Health received information that there is leakage in the oxygen tank which supplies oxygen to patients at Rob Ferreira hospital in the City of Mbombela.

One of the staff members, while knocking off and driving off in the parking lot, lost control of the car and drove into the Oxygen tank. The tank then started leaking Oxygen.

The hospital therefore evacuated the patients from nearby wards. Activated the Fire department and called the service provider for emergency protocols. They then

MEC for Health strongly condemns the criminal attack on EMS personnel

The Mpumalanga MEC for Health strongly condemns the criminal attack, robbery and suspected spiking incident involving two Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel travelling between Steve Biko Academic Hospital and Ermelo on the night of 17 January 2026.

Attacks on emergency medical personnel are unacceptable and place lives at risk. Our paramedics and EMS teams work day and night to save lives under difficult circumstances. They should never be targeted for crime while performing their duties.
